HONEY CONE was formed in 1968 by lead singer Edna Wright, (February 2, 1945 – September 12, 2020), formerly of the gospel group THE COGICS and THE BLOSSOMS. Along with Carolyn Willis formerly of THE GIRL FRIENDS and BOBBY SOX & BLUE JEANS and Shelly Clark formerly of THE IKETTES! The trio was named “The Best Female Vocal Group” by the National Association of Television and Radio Announcers in 1970. They were 3 phenomenal entertainers in their own right, but when combined, they formed a legendary group with a unique sound and dynamic stage presence. HONEY CONE ushered in a new, more assertive era lyrically for girl groups! They received the prestigious FOREVER NUMBER 1 AWARD for their pop hit record WANT ADS from BillBoard Music! HONEY CONE was recently inducted into the Soul Music Hall of Fame in 2021.
HONEY CONE recorded 5 LPs and has performed with A-Lists artists including Parliament Funkadelic and George Burns. HONEY CONE was the first act to appear on the hit televised show, Soul Train. The trio also appeared on numerous other television shows including Andy Williams, American Bandstand, Johnny Carson Tonight Show, Sonny and Cher, and Merv Griffin.
HONEY CONE’s music has been featured in several soundtracks including A Futile and Stupid Gesture, Mi Vida Loca, and Because I Said So!

Before Honey Cone became a household name, they were 3 session singers from Los Angeles, CA. Invited to perform on the Andy Williams Show, the trio jumped at the opportunity after another group declined. This performance lead to the group being signed to a major record label and the rest is history.
The Merv Griffin TV Show feat. Honey Cone
When Honey Cone released "Want Ads" it proved to be their biggest success, topping both the R&B and Pop Charts, selling over one million copies, awarded with a gold record by the R.I.A.A in May 1971. The trio began headlining their own shows across the US.
Honey Cone was honored to perform live on the legendary Merv Griffin TV Show. These talented ladies, gifted with an extraordinary sound, mesmorized not only Merv Griffin but also his international audience.

Honey Cone was the first act to appear on the popular televised show, Soul Train, which featured performances by chart topping musical artists of all genres.

Honey Cone had another No. 1 R&B hit and No. 11 pop hit with "Stick-Up," which also sold more than one million units. Honey Cone was named The Best Female Vocal Group by the National Association of Television and Radio Announcers (NATRA) in 1971
